REMINDER: ORLive Presents: Revolutionary Techniques in Penile Implant Surgery, a Restorative Procedure Option for Men Diagnosed With Severe Erectile Dysfunction

Live Webcast: From Coral Gables Hospital: March 26, 2007 4:00 PM EDT (20:00 UTC)

CORAL GABLES, FL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 26, 2007 -- Coral Gables Hospital, in conjunction with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital's Department of Urology, announced today that on March 26, 2007 at 4:00 PM EDT, they will host a surgical webcast featuring innovative, minimally invasive penile implant surgery live on www.OR-Live.com.

Each year, approximately 25,000 patients elect to receive a Penile Implant, which is relatively few compared to the nearly 900,000 (Massachusetts Male Aging Study 2000) men who are diagnosed with some degree of ED, annually. The two surgeons each utilize a different approach for the procedure and will discuss and debate the merits of their personal preferences during the webcast, as both techniques provide distinct benefits to patients. Severe Erectile Dysfunction (also known as "Drug Resistant ED") generally cannot be treated by popular pills such as Viagra® or Cialis®. The implant is a small, saline-filled device that is entirely concealed in the body and boasts some of the highest patient satisfaction results amongst any prosthetic treatment (i.e. hips, knees, back, etc).

"By significantly reducing the operative time associated with previous versions of this procedure, we improve the quality of life for our patients," Dr. Perito continued, "My Minimally Invasive approach takes less than 15 minutes. I believe that reduction of redundant steps in the OR directly has helped provide a much shorter recovery process for the patient." Many patients of Drs. Eid and Perito are managed on an Outpatient basis versus the traditional overnight required with most implant procedures. The innovative techniques of both surgeons and similar specialists throughout the country provide improved cosmetic results, as the implant is placed through a small, 1"-1.5" opening.

Both surgeons feel that minimizing opportunity for infection, a concern in any OR setting, is imperative to their respective patient outcomes. Through Dr. Perito's swift Infrapubic approach or Dr. Eid's unique "No Touch Technique" minimizing skin contact through surgical draping; the surgeons have varying approaches to control infection opportunity.

Renown Sexual Medicine Specialist, Dr. Irwin Goldstein (San Diego) will moderate the 60-minute program, providing further insight about this restorative procedure. "This educational forum is a great vehicle to talk about such an under-utilized modality," Goldstein, a clinical Urologist (and Electrical Engineer) stated, "This implant has a 97.5% mechanical reliability and nearly 20 years of durability data on the key components -- it's just too bad that relatively few patients are aware of the treatment."

Over the past three years, Drs. Eid and Perito have performed more than 1,000 Penile Implant cases at their respective centers.

This program is funded by an educational grant from Coloplast (COPN: COLO-B)
