REMINDER/Public Notice: Burlington Canal Lift Bridge-Short-Term Closures

HAMILTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Jan. 21, 2016) - Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) wishes to advise motorists, pedestrians and cyclists of three short-term closures on the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge, located in Hamilton, Ontario.

Beginning at 1 p.m. on January 21, 2016, the bridge will be closed three times for 15 to 30 minutes over a period of approximately two hours. The bridge will reopen for a period to clear traffic between each closure. Pedestrians and cyclists will not have access to the bridge during the closures.

These closures are required as part of the project to replace the bridge's controls, drives and cables. The schedule may change due to weather conditions or logistical requirements.

Short-term closures of the bridge or individual lanes will continue to occur periodically during the project. PSPC will publish notifications regarding upcoming closures, restrictions and any changes in schedule.

Safety is a top priority for PSPC during this project. The replacement of key components of the bridge's lift system will extend its serviceable life, meeting the needs of both marine and vehicular traffic in the area.

PSPC thanks users for their patience.
