REMINDER: St. Joseph's Hospital and Marshfield Clinic Invites Physicians and Informed Care Seekers to Its 11th Live Medical Webcast

Join Us June 18, 2009 @ 5:00 PM CDT, to Learn More About Hip Replacement Surgical Alternatives for More Active Patients

MARSHFIELD, WI--(Marketwire - June 25, 2009) - Chronic hip pain can often become debilitating, restricting people from their ability to enjoy normal, everyday activities. For years, when anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving medications no longer provided relief, the only option was a total hip replacement.

Two surgical procedures are now being performed by Marshfield Clinic physicians at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, offering significant alternatives for younger, more active patients.

Hip resurfacing is an early intervention for hip replacement in which the ball of the hip is resurfaced rather than replaced, resulting in less bone removal. The other surgical procedure that is offered is hip impingement surgery. This is done in the very early stages of osteoarthritis, with the intent to treat hip discomfort, preserving the existing natural hip joint and delaying or avoiding hip replacement surgery.

The webcast will air from 5-6 p.m. on Thursday, June 18. During the webcast, Marshfield Clinic physicians on staff at Saint Joseph's Hospital will discuss the procedures. The program will feature pre-taped procedures and a real-time panel discussion and analysis.

The webcast also will include discussion of a lumbar plexus anesthesia, which is used for orthopaedic post-operative pain management.

The moderator will be Orthopaedic Surgeon Stig Jacobsen, MD. Panel members will include Anesthesiologist James Conterato, MD; Radiologist Charles Kenney, MD; and Orthopaedic Surgeon David Simenstad, MD.
