To mark the Canadian Coast Guard's participation in the Fête de la famille de Trois-Rivières [Trois Rivières family festival], the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, issued the following statement today:

"The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) motto, Saluti primum, auxilio semper, which means Safety First – Service Always," accurately reflects the dedication and integrity of all Coast Guard employees, who are always ready to save lives. As part of our participation in the Trois Rivières family festival, we are pleased to welcome families, navigators and the general public to the Trois Rivières hovercraft base. Besides having a chance to find out more about the CCG's services and activities and to see one of our hovercraft up close, visitors will also be given an opportunity to meet the men and women who work tirelessly to ensure the community's marine safety."

Last year, more than 400 people visited the Canadian Coast Guard facilities in Trois Rivières, which have been operational since 1998. The Canadian Coast Guard is present across Canada, ensuring the safety, accessibility and protection of Canadian waters.
