REMINDER/The Legendary Oliver Jones to Receive the Paul Gerin-Lajoie Award of Diversity

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - June 9, 2015) - ENSEMBLE for the respect of diversity is proud to present the Paul-Gérin-Lajoie Award of Diversity to internationally renowned pianist, Oliver Jones. He follows in the footsteps of esteemed novelist Kim Thùy who earned the same honour in 2013.

Since 2009, the Paul Gérin-Lajoie Award of Tolerance has been presented to public figures that promote open-mindedness, bridge the gap between communities and are advocates in the fight against discrimination. Previous award winners include Kim Thùy, Dany Turcotte, Maxime Collard and his mother, Dr. Julien, as well as Father Emmett "Pops" Johns.

Oliver Jones is receiving this award as a result of his impressive lifelong journey during which he had to face many challenges. Born and raised in Saint Henri, a predominantly working class area of Montreal, he was performing publicly at age five. Oliver Jones' seven-decade musical career has been rich and varied. Through music, Mr. Jones overcame the rigid ethnic barriers of that era. He was, and still is, a positive model for all communities. He has enjoyed a glorious career while maintaining a great generosity of spirit.

The award will be presented at ENSEMBLE for the respect of diversity's annual fundraiser to be held this coming Wednesday, June 10th at 5:30 p.m. at Espace Réunion (6600 Hutchison Street, Outremont). Tickets for this event, which includes a brief performance by Oliver Jones, can be purchased on the ENSEMBLE's Web site at www.ensemble-rd.com. Under the patronage of Jean-Guy Desjardins, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Fiera Capital (Major Partner), Jazzons Ensemble will also welcome two-time Olympic champion, Alexandre Bilodeau.
