Remote Traveller Processing Pilot Project Extends Hours of Service at Newly Rebuilt Border Crossing at Morses Line, Quebec

SAINT-ARMAND, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Feb. 11, 2016) - Canada Border Services Agency

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced today that travellers entering Canada via the newly rebuilt border crossing at Morses Line now benefit from extended hours of service as a result of a new pilot project that makes travel more convenient. During the pilot, travellers who arrive at the Morses Line port of entry (POE) after staffed hours of service will be processed by an off-site border services officer.

The officer will be located at the CBSA Telephone Reporting Centre and travellers will be processed through a kiosk equipped with two-way audio and one-way video. During staffed hours, travellers will be processed by an officer at the POE per normal procedures.

The pilot will allow the CBSA to test the viability and potential benefits of remote traveller processing as a way to maintain border security while expanding border access for legitimate travellers between Canada and the United States (U.S.).

Quick Facts:

  • The Morses Line POE was chosen as a pilot site due to the low volume of commercial traffic and low traveller volumes processed on a daily basis.
  • The remote traveller processing pilot is open to Canadian and American citizens, Canadian permanent residents and lawful permanent residents of the U.S.
  • The pilot at Morses Line does not require any pre-registration.
  • The new CBSA building at the Morses Line POE consists of prefabricated modules built according to sustainable development principles.
  • The Morses Line POE is equipped with closed circuit television cameras to allow for 24/7 monitoring of the site.
