Reno-Depot Completes Renovation of Laval and Pointe-Claire Stores

An investment of close to $4 million

BOUCHERVILLE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - May 6, 2009) - RONA inc. (TSX:RON), the largest Canadian retailer and distributor of hardware, renovation and gardening products, announced today that renovation work on two of its Reno-Depot stores is complete, an investment of close to $4 million. Stores in Laval and Pointe-Claire, both in Quebec, have been overhauled and updated to reflect the new Reno-Depot concept based on the latest retail trends, offering customers an even better shopping experience. There are 16 stores in Quebec under the Reno-Depot banner.

Since the beginning of 2008, a total of $60 million has been invested in the renovation and expansion of the Reno-Depot network. Stores in Laval and Pointe-Claire are added to the list of 8 redesigned stores reflecting the new Reno-Depot concept, including Anjou; Marche Central and Notre-Dame-de-Grace in Montreal; Brossard; Rosemere; Saint-Hubert; Quebec City and Gatineau. A new Reno-Depot store was open in Candiac last December while the new Lasalle location opened on April 23.

"We began renovating Reno-Depot stores last year and today we are proud to be offering consumers from Laval and Pointe-Claire redesigned stores with an improved product selection," said Pierre Dandoy, Executive Vice President, Retail operations at RONA. "We continue to innovate and invest in our network to always offer our customers the best shopping experience possible," he added.

Inside the redesigned stores, the selection of products has been upgraded while the location of products has been rethought to facilitate shopping. The space is laid out around a wider central aisle, where popular products are displayed. This power aisle branches out into wider side aisles while improved pictogram-based signage helps shoppers find products more easily than before. More space is allotted to the counter reserved for serving construction and home renovation professionals. This counter now includes all services intended for these customers, allowing for faster service.

At the very heart of the store is the Project Space, a consultation area where customers can meet with experienced advisors - Project Guides - to discuss their renovation projects. The Project Space has a reception counter and a by-appointment-only expert zone, where projects can be discussed in depth.

Project Guides can advise customers on the products they need and help them coordinate the tasks involved in their projects. They can also take care of organizing installation services, including getting estimates from professionals, making appointments to have the work done and following up to make sure the final results meet customer expectations. These advisors can also discuss project financing with customers, including the Build Up Plan program where consumers obtain gift cards when they purchase materials used for projects eligible for federal and provincial home renovation tax credit.
