Renowned Bridge Engineering Expert Joins MATECH as Marketing Director

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 27, 2005 -- Material Technologies, Inc. (MATECH) (OTC BB: MTNA) recently announced the hiring of structural engineer Dr. Brent Phares, PE, whose career has established him as one of the foremost experts on bridge testing, evaluation, design, and construction. His particular expertise in inspection and testing will prove critical as MATECH markets its groundbreaking Electrochemical Fatigue Sensor (EFS). The EFS is able to detect smaller growing flaws in bridges and similar structures than any other nondestructive test method.

Dr. Phares has been involved in infrastructure assessment research and application for approximately 15 years. From 1998 to 2001, he was the lead Research Engineer at the Federal Highway Administration's Nondestructive Evaluation Validation Center in McLean, VA., where he was responsible for leading the research related to the development and validation of technologies for evaluating civil infrastructure.

Dr. Phares concurrently served as the Associate Director of the Iowa State University Bridge Engineering Center and as President of MGPS, Inc. As the Associate Director, he has led over $5,000,000 in research for Federal, State, and local clients related to the evaluation, design, and construction of highway and railroad bridges. As president of MGPS, Inc., a testing and evaluation engineering firm, he was responsible for overall corporate management, client relations, and the conduct of work related to the evaluation of civil infrastructure assets of all types. Dr. Phares, a licensed Professional Engineer, is a voting member of four national committees, has written over 80 papers and a book chapter, and has given over 100 presentations at national and international conferences
