Rent-A-Center and Aaron's Lead the Rent to Own Industry Toward a Better Business, Image and a Better Option for Consumers

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - June 29, 2008) - The tremendous growth of Rent-A-Center and Aaron's Sales & Lease Ownership has helped promote the rent to own industry -- the most flexible transaction in the marketplace -- as a valuable resource for consumers. For years, the no-debt, no-obligation rent to own transaction was perceived primarily as a last option for consumers; however, through the professionalism of rent to own companies such as Rent-A-Center and Aaron's, the industry has succeeded in improving its image, increasing its customer base and continuing to grow for the past 12 years.

Rent-A-Center and Aaron's leadership in the rent to own industry have proven to millions of consumers that the transaction is a valuable consumer option that can be a less expensive, debt-free alternative to credit cards. The fact that the customer is never obligated to make the next payment and can return the rented product at any time helps 3 million Americans annually decide to rent, purchase or rent to own name-brand computers, appliances, furniture and electronics.

Not only is the rent to own transaction debt-free for the consumer, but the flexible rent to own transaction allows the customer to select a payment plan that best fits his or her budget. At any time during the transaction, the customer can change the payment plan without penalty, exercise an early-purchase option or take advantage of payment-reinstatement options should he or she decide to return a product before ownership. The rent to own company is fully responsible for the service of the product and provides a replacement product if out-of-home repairs are needed. Delivery and installation of home products are also a part of the rent to own service plan.

The two largest rent to own companies, Rent-A-Center and Aaron's, have led this $6.8-billion industry for more than 25 years. Rent-A-Center and Aaron's rent to own have helped the industry see a 300,000 increase in customers over the past two years.
