Attention: Assignment Editor, Books Editor, Media Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO--(CCNMatthews - March 5, 2007) - Mayor David Miller and Toronto City Council in cooperation with the Ontario Federation of Labour and the Workers Arts and Heritage Centre will launch a ten-piece exhibition and book titled: A Century of Women and Work on Monday, March 5, 2007 in recognition of International Women's Day.

In attendance at the launch will be: Irene Harris, OFL Secretary-Treasurer; Terry Downey, OFL Executive Vice-President; Wayne Samuelson, OFL President; Renée Wetselaar, Workers Arts and Heritage Centre Executive Director, Lynn Simmons writer/researcher and arts curator Carole Condé; as well as four of the contributing artists: Shelly Bahl, Marlene Creates; Tania Willard; and Natalie Wood.

A Century of Women and Work is comprised of 10 pieces of art, each created by a Canadian woman artist who has uniquely interpreted a decade from the 20th Century. The artists are from different provinces and reflect a variety of cultural backgrounds, including First Nations' women and newcomers.

An accompanying booklet A Century of Women and Work provides historical context and a flavour for each decade, highlighting women's determination to effect change. The compilation of the book has been a collective effort of dozens of working women, and reflects oral history, written records, and other historical books and documents. Of course, the story of women's struggle for equality remains unfinished and will do so, until women achieve full social and economic equality.

Through art and written word, A Century of Women and Work tells a story of women's transformation of their work and their world. The art exhibition will be on display throughout International Women's Week from March 5 to 15, 2007 in the Rotunda at Toronto City Hall. The booklet can be ordered from the Ontario Federation of Labour website www.ofl.ca
