WHEN: Thursday, July 7, 3:30 pm
WHY: Unite Here Local 75, along with hotel industry partners, is building a training centre for hospitality workers, a growing, largely immigrant and female workforce. The goal of the training centre is to upgrade the skills of existing Local 75 members and to provide opportunities for newcomers to the industry to get training for entry-level jobs in hotels and hospitality. The Training Centre will serve not only existing union members but also people in the larger communities of which Local 75 members are a part.
The Hospitality Workers Training Centre already operates training on-site with various hotel employers that are unionized with Local 75 in the areas of English as a second language, literacy, computer skills, and housekeeping skills. The training centre, once construction is completed, will include a training restaurant where students can learn entry-level cooking, serving, and bartending skills as well.
Local 75 represents over 7,000 hotel, hospitality and gaming workers in the Greater Toronto Area.
