OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 7, 2011) - Fraud prevention experts from across Canada and around the world will be gathering in Ottawa on March 7 and 8 for the fraud prevention conference Preventing Fraud in a Digital Age. Hosted by the Fraud Prevention Forum, the conference will bring together representatives from law enforcement agencies, government, consumer and student groups, and the private sector to discuss new trends in fraud and scams, and in fraud prevention.
Keynote speakers:
The Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of State (Seniors) - Prior to his election to Parliament, Mr. Fantino served almost 40 years in law enforcement as chief of the York Regional Police and of the Toronto Police Service. He served as Ontario's commissioner of emergency preparedness and as commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police. Speaking at 1 p.m. on March 7.
Detective Inspector Steve Strickland, City of London (UK) Police, Technical Advisor for the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau will speak about the state of fraud in the United Kingdom and initiatives to address the problem. In particular, Mr. Strickland will focus on demonstrating 21st century analytical tools being used. Speaking at 1:20 p.m. on March 7.
John Andrew Singer, International Counsel, Office of International Affairs, U.S. Federal Trade Commission will discuss the types of fraud seen by the Federal Trade Commission and predict future fraud trends. He will also highlight cross-border fraud prevention initiatives and how recent legislative changes in Canada compare to those being made in the United States. Speaking at 12:30 p.m. on March 8.
