REPEAT-PIPSC: Media Advisory-Computer Systems Professionals Rally Across Canada for Contract

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - May 26, 2006) - Federal government computer systems professionals, unionized with the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada will rally tomorrow in various locations across Canada to show solidarity and support to their bargaining team.

Date: Friday, May 26, 2006

Time: noon

Place: Various Locations across Canada
Please refer to list attached

The CS Group represents 12,000 computer programmers, analysts and other informatics specialists in the federal government. Their collective agreement expired on Dec. 21, 2004. Negotiations with their employer, the Treasury Board of Canada, have reached an impasse and the group has asked for the assistance of a Conciliation Board. Hearings are scheduled for May 27 and 28. Seven days after the Conciliation Board's report and if no agreement has been reached, the CS Group will be in legal strike position.

The CS Group will be sending a clear message that the delivery of services to Canadians is in serious jeopardy with looming strike action. Government relies on computer professionals to run its complex computer networks to deliver services to the Canadian population. This service will be compromised if a reasonable solution is not offered to resolve the CS labour impasse.

The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada is a national union representing 50,000 professionals and scientists across Canada.
