Repeat: PLIGHT OF MIGRANT WORKERS IN CANADA SUBJECT OF NATIONAL CONFERENCE

ATTN. WEEKEND ASSIGNMENT: GROUNDBREAKING GATHERING OF MIGRANT WORKERS AND ADVOCATES AT YORK UNIVERSITY JUNE 10 AND JUNE 11 Attention: Agriculture Editor, Assignment Editor, City Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - June 9, 2006) - If the past is any indicator, Canada's plans to expand its migrant workforce will mean thousands of additional migrant workers who will face a future with few rights, no opportunity to become Canadian, and a chronic vulnerability to workplace abuse and harassment.

This weekend, June 10 and 11, a groundbreaking gathering will bring together about 100 migrant workers and migrant justice advocates from across Canada and North America to lay the foundation for a just, more equitable future for the tens of thousands live-in caregivers, seasonal agricultural workers and persons without status whose Canadian experience is precarious and filled with the fear of being shipped home or denied pay for raising legitimate workplace concerns with their employers.

Meet these workers and their advocates at this two-day conference and gathering:
