Report: IBM Ranked Number One in Worldwide Market Share for Enterprise Portals

ARMONK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 12, 2005 -- IBM announced that WebSphere® Portal has been named the industry's number one enterprise portal product by a top market analyst firm. According to IDC(1), IBM has the highest percentage of worldwide portal market share for 2004 based on software license and maintenance revenue, which is more than 10 percent higher than the closest competitor.

Organizations today are facing an overload of information on multiple and disparate systems, making it increasingly difficult to identify, access, and disseminate relevant information. Through a security-rich and scalable infrastructure, WebSphere Portal helps businesses organize, combine, and make information and systems easier to use. In addition, WebSphere Portal is a key part of the services oriented architecture (SOA) lifecycle for deploying people based services.

Ball Memorial

Ball Memorial Hospital, the flagship hospital for Cardinal Health System, selected IBM WebSphere Portal and Bowstreet technology to develop a physicians' dashboard that aggregates data and functionality from disparate systems. The physicians' dashboard provides access to critical data, such as patient, scheduling, and pharmaceutical information, from a single source.

"We're very pleased with the results we have achieved. The time our physicians save by using the dashboard allows each of them to schedule one additional patient per day. This translates to a potential increase in revenue of approximately $60,000 per month or $720,000 per year," explains Christina Fogle, Manager of eSystem Support, Cardinal Health System.

The AO Foundation

The AO Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to research and education in the area of trauma and corrective surgery, turned to IBM and IBM Business Partner WP Experts to create a portal that would let surgeons and faculty members communicate and access everything from surgical procedures and research data, to continuing education requirements.
