Research Firm Frost & Sullivan Names Empirix Market Share Leader for IMS Voice Testing and Monitoring

VoIP Test Market Share Leader Retains Position in IMS

BOSTON, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 11, 2006 -- FROM FALL VON -- BOOTH # 949 -- From Fall VON 2006, Empirix® Inc., which helps organizations adopt complex communications solutions with confidence, announced that research firm Frost & Sullivan has released a new study on IMS Voice Testing and Monitoring that identifies Empirix as the overall market share leader with its portfolio of Hammer testing and monitoring solutions.

The study, titled "IMS Network Test & Measurement Market for Voice Testing and Monitoring Applications," will be published later in September. To register for an executive summary of the report, visit

IMS (which stands for IP Multimedia Subsystem) is a standardized architecture for delivering voice and multimedia communications over IP networks. IMS enables advanced applications and services such as Voice over IP (VoIP), push-to-talk, push-to-view, video calling and video sharing. Benefits of the technology for network operators include faster time-to-market for new services, reduced capital expenditures and reduced operational costs for networks, and easier customization of services. Consumers will benefit from a new breed of blended and converged services that span communications realms such as telephony and TV integration and fixed-to-mobile network roaming. IMS technology has been adopted by all sectors of the telecommunications industry including cellular, landline and cable.

Frost & Sullivan defines three major application segments within the IMS testing and monitoring market: voice, video and data. This study focused on the voice segment, which Frost & Sullivan believes will be the first and most critical step towards mass IMS deployment. "Voice is the foundation and essential application for IMS networks. Service providers and NEMs are first proving they can provide high-quality voice services on their new IMS networks before proceeding to more advanced applications," notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Olga Yashkova in the report.

In a revenue analysis of leading IMS testing and monitoring vendors, Frost & Sullivan identified Empirix as the market share leader for IMS voice testing and monitoring, with an estimated 25.7 percent share of the overall market for 2006. Empirix also placed first in the IMS voice testing segment. Overall, Frost & Sullivan expects the IMS voice testing and monitoring market to reach $155.5 million in 2006, and to nearly double to $297.6 million by 2008.

"If IMS was just a buzzword in 2005, in 2006 it has become a reality," said Yashkova. "Interest in IMS has grown tremendously due to the wide range of benefits and value-added features it has to offer. Not surprisingly, this has created a major need for test and monitoring equipment to support the technology as it is developed and deployed. Empirix, with its renowned Hammer product line and long history of success in the VoIP test and measurement space, is very well positioned in the IMS market with commanding market share."

"We knew instinctively that we were gaining momentum in the IMS space, and we're very pleased that our market share has been validated by Frost & Sullivan," said Duane Sword, Vice President of Product Management and Marketing at Empirix. "We're also glad that the firm confirmed the importance of the voice segment, which we have seen emerge as the first IMS application sector to become a reality and drive significant revenue for our customers."

Today, all of the world's Top 10 NEMs and virtually all major service providers use Empirix's Hammer solutions to ensure the performance of their devices, networks and services. Over the years, Empirix has helped these customers successfully transition through several large communication technology waves, including TDM, IVR, CTI, VoIP, NGN and now IMS.
