Response to Closed-End Fund Series Shows Advisers Embracing Investment Trusts Post-RDR

LONDON--(Marketwire - Feb 19, 2013) - Launched in 2011 to alert financial advisers and wealth managers to the opportunities in investment trusts, the BrightTALK™ Closed-end Fund Series celebrates its second birthday this month. Viewing figures and feedback suggest that, in the post-RDR environment, advisers are increasingly embracing investment trusts.

A collaboration between investment trust groups Aberdeen Asset Management, J.P. Morgan, F&C Investment and Henderson Global Investors, plus research group Morningstar with technology and distribution provider BrightTALK, the series has had over 2,000 viewers across the 22 panel sessions with this number continuing to grow.

It has seen 80 different panelists sharing their expertise on investment trusts, covering everything from frontier markets to investment trust due diligence. The panelists extend well beyond the founders and sponsors -- inviting platforms, non-executive directors of investment trusts, advisers and investment trust analysts.

The discussions have been lively and insightful, providing much value to the audience of advisers who attend for free. Transcripts and are available from the series for anyone writing about investment trust issues and can be accessed through the BrightTALK platform.

James Saunders Watson, Head of Marketing, Investment Trusts at J.P. Morgan Asset Management, said: "The growing adviser engagement with investment trusts is clearly evident in the amount of interest generated by the Closed-end Funds Series since its launch two years ago. The series has been a really useful way of introducing some of the key issues facing investment trusts to a wider audience in the post-RDR world."

Piers Currie, Group Head of Brand & Closed-end Fund Marketing, Aberdeen Asset Management, adds: "It's also a lively and engaging series, in a talk radio format which I think really helps to bring investment trusts out of their shell to the UK adviser community. We operate a similar programme in the US for advisors there, which has also been very popular. So we think the format has legs."

Join the next live event, Due Diligence and Investment Trusts, at 1pm on 20th February here: https://www.brighttalk.com/r/rVW. The series offers a live monthly panel session which becomes available to watch on demand immediately afterwards.

Notes to editors

Feedback from advisers on the series includes:

"Very informative concise and useful. Good to have quality people engaging in this helpful discussion."

"Very good and covered the full range in good detail -- I do hope some lazy unit trust huggers were listening!"

"As an investment trust fan, I always enjoy your closed end forum. This one had a particularly good mix of sectoral prospects and recommendations, RDR crystal ball gazing, and discount control mechanisms. And no one mentioned macroeconomics nor European debt crisis. Perfect."

"Excellent participants with sound, experience and balanced views expressed."

The average session rating is 4.2 out of 5.
