Restaurateur David Sidoo Feeds Gourmands and Hungry Children as Well

TORONTO--(Marketwire - June 24, 2008) - Known to many in the region as the owner of the critically acclaimed restaurant Lumière, community benefactor David Sidoo is also pursuing his desire to provide food for people in other parts of the economic spectrum as well.

Thanks to his recent work with the Royal City Education Foundation, Mr. Sidoo's philanthropic efforts will allow the school system to provide more than 5,000 nutritious lunches for underprivileged students in local schools.

The funds from the Janta Sewak Society will be allocated among six elementary schools and one middle school that do not currently have lunch programs for underprivileged children. The amount allocated to each school will be based upon vulnerability criteria established by the New Westminster CommunityLinks committee and once funds are allocated they will be distributed at the discretion of each school using a $4.00 per meal figure as a guiding line. This is a long term program David Sidoo is setting up in New West with the first 7 elementary schools chosen on the base of the highest need.

"Feeding people really is one of the great joys of my life. There is something that goes beyond economics and calories when you provide food for someone," said David Sidoo. "Whether it's serving a gourmet meal to a gratified patron, or a nutritious lunch to a young student, there is a special satisfaction that comes along with serving the dietary needs of the community."

Mr. Sidoo is a graduate of New Westminster Secondary School and a proud alum of the B.C. Lions football program. He is actively involved in many philanthropic ventures as the driving force behind the Sidoo Family Foundation, the Janta Sewak Society and other charitable organizations. His actions have generated successful programs that serve the public interest locally in New Westminster and in many other areas of the world as well.

This much needed contribution was graciously accepted on behalf of students everywhere by School Trustee Brent Atkinson and Mayor Wayne Wright during a presentation ceremony held at Hume Park Elementary School. Hume Park is one of the many schools where student hunger concerns will answered by the timely donation, until a more permanent solution can be put in place.
