TORONTO--(Marketwire - June 24, 2008) - Known to many in the region as the owner of the
critically acclaimed restaurant Lumière, community benefactor David Sidoo
is also pursuing his desire to provide food for people in other parts of
the economic spectrum as well.
Thanks to his recent work with the Royal City Education Foundation, Mr.
Sidoo's philanthropic efforts will allow the school system to provide more
than 5,000 nutritious lunches for underprivileged students in local
The funds from the Janta Sewak Society will be allocated among six
elementary schools and one middle school that do not currently have lunch
programs for underprivileged children. The amount allocated to each school
will be based upon vulnerability criteria established by the New
Westminster CommunityLinks committee and once funds are allocated they will
be distributed at the discretion of each school using a $4.00 per meal
figure as a guiding line. This is a long term program David Sidoo is
setting up in New West with the first 7 elementary schools chosen on the
base of the highest need.
"Feeding people really is one of the great joys of my life. There is
something that goes beyond economics and calories when you provide food for
someone," said David Sidoo. "Whether it's serving a gourmet meal to a
gratified patron, or a nutritious lunch to a young student, there is a
special satisfaction that comes along with serving the dietary needs of the
Mr. Sidoo is a graduate of New Westminster Secondary School and a proud
alum of the B.C. Lions football program. He is actively involved in many
philanthropic ventures as the driving force behind the Sidoo Family
Foundation, the Janta Sewak Society and other charitable organizations. His
actions have generated successful programs that serve the public interest
locally in New Westminster and in many other areas of the world as well.
This much needed contribution was graciously accepted on behalf of students
everywhere by School Trustee Brent Atkinson and Mayor Wayne Wright during a
presentation ceremony held at Hume Park Elementary School. Hume Park is one
of the many schools where student hunger concerns will answered by the
timely donation, until a more permanent solution can be put in place.
