Restorative Justice Week 2012

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 10, 2012) - The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is pleased to announce "Diverse Needs; Unique Responses" as the theme for Restorative Justice Week 2012 which will take place November 18-25, 2012.

Also taking place during the upcoming week are the National Restorative Justice Symposium in Winnipeg, Manitoba from November 18-20, 2012 and the presentation of the National Ron Wiebe Restorative Justice Award on November 19th, 2012.

Restorative Justice is an approach to justice that emphasizes healing for victims, accountability of offenders, and the involvement of communities in creating healthier, safer communities.

This year's theme recognizes that restorative justice is an approach that addresses the various needs of people affected by crime and conflict. Restorative justice processes, in response to crime and conflict, are highly adaptable to different people, environments, and systems as the identified needs of the people involved help formulate the unique response that can contribute to a person's sense of safety, justice and well-being.

CSC encourages communities across Canada to organize events and activities during the upcoming week. Organizations and individuals looking for materials to assist them should contact the Restorative Justice Division of CSC. Materials available include resource kits, posters and event ideas to help you celebrate "Diverse Needs; Unique Responses," the theme for this year's Restorative Justice Week.
