Retirement Income Industry Association to Launch New Retirement Management Journal and Thought Leadership Awards in 2011

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - December 1, 2010) - The Retirement Income Industry Association (RIIA)( will launch its new Retirement Management Journal℠ (RMJ℠) and Thought Leadership Awards in 2011, announced Francois Gadenne, Chairman and Executive Director of RIIA.

"The RMJ℠ and Thought Leadership Awards were designed to promote research, scholarship and innovative thinking on retirement management topics that contribute to the industry's body of knowledge as well as RIIA's Retirement Management Analyst℠ (RMA℠) designation's curriculum," says Gadenne.

Retirement Management Journal℠

Bob Powell, the editor of the RMJ℠, will accept papers for submission with the goal of making the magazine thought provoking, practical, and inspirational. As a standard-bearer, the RMJ℠ will serve as required reading for those who have achieved the RMA℠ advanced designation to earn continuing education credits.

"This publication fills an unmet need in the marketplace. Most retirement income management papers are found hit-or-miss in existing financial publications. The RMJ℠ offers a focused approach and represents an opportunity for readers to expand the body of retirement management and income planning knowledge," explains Powell.

Additionally, the RMJ℠ is the first peer-reviewed publication serving the needs of financial advisors, practitioners, executives, and scholars who are interested in all things retirement, especially those who hold the RMA℠ designation. Papers will be reviewed by either the Practitioner Peer Review Committee or the Academic Peer Review Committee.

The publication's goals are to:

1. Become a leading source on retirement income management topics including one or more industry awards for papers that demonstrate excellence in Thought Leadership for academics and practitioners.

2. Create a forum on an emerging, promising field not sufficiently addressed by existing silo-based industry groups and publications.

3. Play a "feeder" role for publication of RMA℠ curriculum revisions, textbook updates and enhancements to the RMA℠ Body of Knowledge.

4. Assume a "facilitator" role for the RMA℠ certificate holders to stay current.

Thought Leadership Awards

The Thought Leadership Awards program consists of two categories, the Practitioner Thought Leadership Award and the Academic Thought Leadership Award where one practitioner and one scholar will be recognized for their papers demonstrating excellence in original thinking and industry leadership. Practitioner authors may range from financial advisors to product development managers to marketing communications experts. Scholars may include academics from across the realm of educational institutions. Each winner will be awarded $5,000 and their papers will be published in the new RMJ℠.

The RMJ℠ and the Thought Leadership Awards are sponsored by Allianz Global Investors (AGI), a firm recognized for its support of academic research in the fields of retirement income and investment strategies for pensions and retirement. These efforts include the recently launched AGI Center for Behavioral Finance and sponsor for the global publication of Project M magazine.
