Retransmission-Media Advisory: UCMAS Students Compete in the Largest Canadian Math Competition Using Only Mental Math and the Abacus

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 20, 2012) - UCMAS Canada Inc. has announced its 7th Annual UCMAS Mental Math Competition which will be held on April 22, 2012, followed by the Awards Ceremony on April 27, 2012. About 1,700 UCMAS Mental Math students aged 4 to 13 will be participating in the competition, the largest competition of its kind in Canada.

During the competition, the UCMAS students are given eight minutes to solve approx. 200 arithmetic questions, using only their Abacus or mental math. The examination showcases more than prowess in Math - it's a testament to the skills the students develop in the UCMAS program such as visual memory, focus, creativity and visualization, all of which leads to greater proficiency in Math and enhances overall academic achievement.

Every year, 200 prizes are awarded to the top students across each UCMAS level. The top winners at the competition in Canada will then be invited to participate at the International UCMAS Competition which will take place in Malaysia.
