The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, held a roundtable meeting today with members of Branch 59 of the Royal Canadian Legion. The event was part of his continued efforts to consult widely and frankly with Veterans and their families to ensure the Government is meeting their needs.

"Our Government places the highest priority on ensuring Veterans and their families have the support they need, when they need it," said Minister Blaney. "When I meet with Veterans' groups such as the Royal Canadian Legion, I am able to receive the feedback I need to better serve our nation's heroes."

Minister Blaney has recently announced several changes as part of his Cutting Red Tape initiative, which is primarily focused on making the policies and programs at Veterans Affairs Canada less complicated and its services easier to access.

Gaspé was the first of several roundtable meetings planned for Minister Blaney this summer. Minister Blaney will hold other roundtable meetings with various Veterans' groups to consult on the programs and services available to Veterans.

"As the Commander for District 1 - Gaspé, I would like to thank Minister Blaney, and his team, for his visit to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 59 (Jubilé), in Gaspé. All of the members who were present, including those from the Barachois Branch, found the meeting very positive and constructive," said Marc Bernatchez, President of Legion Branch 59 in Gaspé.

"I am pleased to have had the chance to hear first-hand the experiences and suggestions of our partner, the Royal Canadian Legion, which has a proud history of advocating for the men and women who have served our country," said Minister Blaney. "I look forward to continuing the discussion with even more Veterans this summer."
