Return-It Electronics: Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA) Recycling Program Announces Major Product Expansion

BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - July 3, 2012) - The Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA) stewardship program has expanded to accept even more products for recycling at Return-It Electronics™ Collection Sites throughout British Columbia.

In addition to display devices, computers, peripherals and audio/video equipment, British Columbians can now responsibly recycle even more electronic products-everything from GPS devices, electronic musical instruments, even calculators.

"By including new products, we are proud to say that EPRA will recycle more than 260 different types of electronics in total," says Craig Wisehart, Program Director, EPRA. "With more than 125 Return-It Collection Sites across the province, we are ensuring these products are collected and recycled responsibly."

Since its launch in 2007, the program has been responsible for diverting more than 75,000 metric tonnes of unwanted electronics away from landfills and offshore shipment. The program has also successfully achieved a recycling weight of 4.65 kilograms per person in 2011-one of the highest rates of electronic waste diversion in North America.

"These days, people want to know where they can responsibly dispose of their unwanted electronics," said Wisehart. "Now that we have broadened our program to nearly any kind of electronic product, we will divert even more electronics from our landfills."

Products are recycled responsibly within North America, ensuring waste is not shipped overseas to developing third world countries. All recyclers are under contract with EPRA and are required to meet Recycling Qualification Program standards. This standard ensures materials are processed in an environmentally sound manner with appropriate health, safety and export provisions. Find the qualification standards at www.rqp.ca.
