Revel Defines the Future of Collaboration With Industry Experts

Revel's Industry REVELations Panel Series Discusses What Collaboration Will Look Like in the Future

KIRKLAND, WA--(Marketwired - Apr 3, 2014) - Collaboration experts discussed how collaboration in the workplace is changing at Revel Consulting's Industry REVELations Expert Panel on March 27 at Revel's Headquarters in Kirkland, Wash.

The panel included Vanessa Druskat, Ph.D., who is an Associate Professor of Management at the University of New Hampshire's Whittemore School of Business & Economics; Kelly Griffin, LEED AP who is a Principal & Architect at NBBJ; and Bregeita Jefferson who is the Chief of Global Donor Compliance at Path.

Four underlying themes emerged from the panel discussion: The value of collaboration comes from serendipitous interactions and the dynamic culture from connecting workers; while the surface of workplaces are changing, the cohesion of communication channels and team personalities are still the foundation; work is becoming more of an activity, less of a place; and measuring the impact of collaboration as a return on an individual initiative or a linear causality will always result in under-accounting of collaboration's full impact.

"The climate is changing in the business world," said Tim Bowman, Revel's Manager of Strategy & Insights. "In a time when a great idea can sprout from anyone, anywhere, at any time, a mobile, social cloud of collaboration is rolling in. Organizations with highly integrated, easy to use technologies and a culture of sharing allow those ideas to take root and grow."

This new collaboration paradigm isn't limited to just advances in technology, but also incorporates a foundational shift in the perception of what collaboration is really all about.

"Collaboration must live in the DNA of an organization's culture," said Bowman. "It includes behavior, work habits, management, business goals and values."

Leading organizations successfully combine and leverage both technological and human collaboration efforts to keep their businesses on the "Digital Edge," the intersection of digital information with physical resources in new ways to create value, competitive advantage and revenue.

The underlying themes, which emerged in the discussion, have been condensed into the Top 4 Collaboration Trends.

The Industry REVELations Expert Panel Series provides a forum for Revel associates, clients and forward-thinking executives to discuss market trends, share insights and build meaningful relationships to accelerate micro-innovation.
