Revised Limits for Political Contributions and Third Party Election Advertising

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 18, 2011) - The limits for political contributions as well as the limits for third party election advertising have been adjusted based on the April 1, 2011, inflation adjustment factors. 

Contribution limits are adjusted on April 1 every year based on the formula set out in the Canada Elections Act:

  • The annual limit for total contributions to a particular registered political party will increase to $1,200 as of January 1, 2012.

  • The annual limit for total contributions to any combination of candidates, nomination contestants and registered electoral district associations of a particular registered party will increase to $1,200 as of January 1, 2012.

  • The limit per election for contributions to each independent candidate in an election commencing between April 1, 2011, and March 31, 2012, will increase to $1,200.

  • The limit per contest for contributions to all leadership contestants in a contest commencing between April 1, 2011, and March 31, 2012, will increase to $1,200.

Third party election advertising limits are also adjusted for inflation on April 1 every year based on the formula set out in the Canada Elections Act. The updated limits will take effect April 1, 2011.
