On November 16th, The Jazz Foundation of America will hold its first ever auction to raise money to continue the work that is keeping the New Orleans music, and the musicians, alive.

-- Wendy Oxenhorn, Director of The Jazz Foundation of America will preside
over the closing bell. Prior to Hurricane Katrina, The Jazz Foundation was
assisting 35 elderly jazz and blues musicians in crisis a week!
Since the disaster hit New Orleans' rich music community the Jazz Foundation responded instantaneously, developing new programs to meet the dire needs of these world-beloved displaced musicians.

Through an emergency housing fund made possible by E*TRADE Financial Group, who has been the largest corporate supporter of the Jazz Foundation, along with Time Warner, has enabled the Jazz Foundation to set up a housing fund to support the many musicians and their families displaced through Hurricane Katrina. Through their donation, the Foundation can now provide New Orleans musicians a chance to get a place of their own by providing crucial funds by paying rent or mortgages to keep destroyed homes from foreclosure to get musicians and their families back on their feet.

The Jazz Foundation has distributed more than $120,000 worth of DONATED instruments, and through the newly initiated AGNES VARES/JAZZ FOUNDATION Jazz IN THE SCHOOLS PROGRAM, is enabling 324 Band performances in 5 States insuring work in Texas, Louisiana, and Georgia by each employing approx. 7 five-member bands for 6 months! And, as always, the Foundation is doing this "One musician at a time."
