Revision of Lists of Electors for Federal By-elections Begins

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 25, 2006) - The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Jean-Pierre Kingsley, announced today that revision of the lists of electors has begun for the Monday, November 27, 2006, federal by-elections in the electoral districts of Repentigny (Quebec) and London North Centre (Ontario). Electors in Repentigny and London North Centre may now make any necessary changes to their names or addresses on the lists, add their names if they are not already registered, or have the name removed of a person who no longer resides at his or her address. To vote in these by-elections, an elector must be a Canadian citizen, 18 years of age on election day and a resident in the electoral district of Repentigny or London North Centre since Wednesday, October 25, 2006.

Elections Canada produces the preliminary list of electors for each polling division based on data from the National Register of Electors. This data is updated regularly with information from various sources, such as the Canada Revenue Agency - with the taxpayer's permission - and from certain provincial and territorial government organizations.

An elector who has recently moved, turned 18 or acquired Canadian citizenship might not be listed at the correct address, or might not be listed at all. Any elector in such a situation may register by contacting the office of the returning officer in his or her riding.

Elections Canada officials may carry out a revision exercise in targeted areas - such as new subdivisions or areas where people tend to move more frequently - to ensure that the lists of electors are complete and accurate.

A voter information card will be mailed to all registered electors. An elector in Repentigny or London North Centre who has not received this card, or who receives a card with incorrect information, may contact the office of the returning officer to correct the information or to make a request to be added to the voters list before Tuesday, November 21 by 6:00 p.m. local time. Electors who for any other reason need to make changes to their names or addresses on the lists should do so by calling the office of the returning officer. An elector who receives a card for a deceased person or someone unknown at that address should also contact the office of the returning officer. The address and telephone number of the office of the returning officer is on the voter information card and at www.elections.ca.

The offices of the returning officers are located at the following addresses.
