RFaxis Evolves to Scale Rapidly Growing Businesses and Align With Strategic Players

Company Creates Wireless Connectivity, Mobility/Cellular, and Antenna Business Units

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - January 20, 2011) -   RFaxis, a fabless semiconductor company focused on innovative, next-generation RF solutions for the wireless connectivity and mobility markets announced at the 2011 International CES that it has partitioned the company into three distinct business units: Wireless Connectivity, Mobility/Cellular and Antenna. These business units represent the coming of age for RFaxis, and enable alignment of its intellectual property (IP) and engineering resources with the rapidly growing market segments and major strategic players. To support its continuing success, RFaxis also announced that it has expanded for the fourth time since its inception and recently doubled its office space by relocating to a new facility in Irvine, Calif.

At this year's CES, RFaxis unveiled its compelling collection of 150 different standalone antennas for a wide range of mobile and infrastructure applications. They also announced the new Skysurf Antenna Business Unit formed specifically to drive global antenna revenues, enable design wins and execute on a product roadmap that includes new static antennas as well as beam-tunable antennas.

The RFaxis Wireless Connectivity Business Unit will continue focusing on the general wireless connectivity market and driving its rapidly growing volume of RF Front-end Integrated Circuit (RFeIC™) design wins. Additionally, this Business Unit will drive business opportunities for its pure CMOS 5GHz power amplifiers and its pure CMOS high power/low voltage SPDT/SP3T switches.

Customer-driven requirements from leading handset and mobile device OEMs and ODMs for RFaxis' cellular phone ICs clearly indicate the global demand for cellular handsets will accelerate faster than ever. Furthermore, the imminent convergence of cellular handsets and mobile internet devices (MID) such as the Apple iPad and other tablet devices will only serve to fuel the explosive growth of cellular communications. Unfortunately, the exciting business opportunities expected for cellular device makers is tempered by the cost of persisting challenges for multi-functional mobile phones and devices such as inefficient battery usage and ineffective robustness of wireless operations, especially in light of looming change factors such as WiMAX/LTE. Hence, RFaxis has chartered its Mobility/Cellular Business Unit with the mission of designing and delivering high-efficiency, cost-effective robust pure CMOS integrated circuit (IC) and antenna solutions specifically for the red-hot cellular handset and 3G/4G mobile device segments. The Mobility/Cellular Business Unit's roadmap leverages RFaxis' pure CMOS silicon expertise and continues RFaxis single-chip/single-die philosophy with highly linear high-band and low-band transmit ICs, fully-integrated complete all-band transmit cellular phone ICs, fully-integrated TX/RX cellular phone ICs, high-gain multi-stage power amplifier blocks, CMOS SPxT switches for cellular devices and a new line of embedded frequency-tunable antennas.

"We have accumulated more than 50 pending patents and over 2,500 claims within our IP portfolio," said Mike Neshat, chairman and CEO of RFaxis, Inc. "However, we have been very diligent in designing and structuring our patents so that our IP portfolio can be cleanly partitioned to support each of our three business units. In other words, because each collection of antenna, cellular IC, and RFeIC™ patents were designed to be independent of any other collection, this decoupling at the IP level gives us the flexibility to align our strategy and resources at the business level. Hence, each of our business units will be self-contained with dedicated IP and engineering resources so that each business unit can be operationally decoupled for agility and market responsiveness."

Neshat concludes, "It has been a little over three years since we were told we were crazy for starting a venture during the worst economic time in recent history to do what many thought to be impossible. However, since then we have produced new RF innovations that serve as catalysts to revolutionize our ecosystem, and place RFaxis in the eye of today's wireless perfect storm. Indeed... vision, conviction, perseverance and hard work truly do pay off."
