RFaxis Scores Design Win With Cameo Communications to Enable Latest 802.11n MIMO Device

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 30, 2011) - RFaxis, a fabless semiconductor company focused on innovative, next-generation RF solutions for the wireless connectivity and cellular mobility markets announced today that its single-chip/single-die RFX2402 RF Front-end IC (RFeIC™) has been selected by Cameo Communications, Inc., a tier-1 networking Original Design Manufacturer (ODM), for its latest Multi-Input, Multi-Output (MIMO) WLAN USB client device. This Cameo MIMO Wi-Fi device will enable Cameo's partners to support high-performance IEEE 802.11n wireless access and robust networking for advanced video streaming and other high throughput applications.

"MIMO technology plays a critical role in wireless communications and beyond because it offers significant increases in data throughput and link range without additional bandwidth or transmit power," commented Hal Hikita, RFaxis COO and EVP Strategic Planning. "This is achieved by increasing network bandwidth and reliability for 802.11n WLAN mobile devices, routers and client Customer Premises Equipment (CPE)."

Dr. Ping Peng, RFaxis EVP of Business Development, continues, "The accelerating demand for higher performance, lower cost and miniaturization poses a growing challenge for conventional Front-end module (FEM) and transceiver vendors. Specifically, multiple RF Front-ends are required for MIMO devices, thus rendering the transceiver/power amplifier System-on-Chip (SoC) approach impossible with respect to thermal management and overall performance. In fact, the RF Front-end for true MIMO devices must comprise of a cluster of external, standalone RF Front-ends. Standalone FEMs may be a solution, however, because conventional FEMs are simply an aggregation of individual front-end components made from expensive semiconductor materials, employing multiple FEMs for MIMO devices burdens system designers with excessive costs and unreliable performance. Hence, there is a major RF Front-end gap with respect to such MIMO devices. Fortunately, the innovative RFX2402 RFeIC™ from RFaxis bridges this gap and enables system designers to cost-effectively take full advantage of their MIMO architecture and maximize wireless performance. The MediaTek/Ralink RL3573 and RL3883 802.11n MIMO chipsets that incorporate the RFaxis RFX2402 RFeIC™ are a testimony to our value proposition."

Mike Neshat, RFaxis chairman and CEO, concludes, "We are very excited about our design win with Cameo. This design win, along with similar design wins with other top-tier ODMs, accelerates our momentum. Cameo is a highly regarded international networking products supplier that truly appreciates the value of robust wireless connectivity and performance, especially in the context of MIMO devices. Cameo continues to successfully grow its market share in the competitive data communications field through innovative product design and marketing, and has built a global presence via strategic relationships with leading networking brands including D-Link® and NETGEAR®. Furthermore, Cameo is the largest WLAN device provider in Japan. Cameo is committed to delivering value, quality and reliability without technical compromise, and we are proud that our RF solutions complement the Cameo philosophy."

The RFaxis RFX2402 is a fully integrated, single-chip/single-die RFeIC™ that incorporates all RF Front end functionality needed for 2.4GHz IEEE 802.11n WLAN applications. The RFX2402 comes complete with a power amplifier (PA), low noise amplifier (LNA), transmit and receive switching, matching network, harmonic filter, power detector, and CMOS control logic all integrated onto a single silicon die and delivered in an ultra compact 3x3mm 16-lead QFN package.
