RFID TagSource Sponsors World's Largest RFID Tag Selection Report

Rutgers University Evaluates Over 100 Passive RFID Tags

CAMDEN, NJ--(Marketwire - Jul 26, 2011) - RFID TagSource, a leading provider of RFID tagging solutions, today announced the release of the Rutgers University RFID Tag Selection Report, the most complete evaluation of passive UHF RFID tags completed in the RFID industry. Jointly sponsored by RFID TagSource and Motorola Solutions RFID Division, The Rutgers Center for Innovative Ventures of Emerging Technologies (CIVET) evaluated a wide variety of RFID Tags using Motorola Solutions handheld and fixed RFID readers.

The driver for this selection guide is to enable RFID solution providers and end users to rapidly identify passive UHF Gen2 RFID tags and reader platforms that best fit their application needs. It also highlights the capabilities of the Rutgers CIVET RFID Research Center to provide meaningful research that supports the needs of private sector organizations.

"Tag selection is a critical determinant in the success of an RFID deployment," said Kevin Donahue, Managing Director of RFID TagSource. "Tags that excel in one area are often less suitable in others. Other factors include surface materials, environmental conditions, size, attachment methods, and labeling and encoding. We pride ourselves on being tag experts, and as the leading vendor independent provider of tagging solutions, RFID TagSource is in a unique position to offer tags from more than one manufacturer delivered as a single tagging solution. Supporting this research is very much aligned with our commitment to exceed customer expectations."

"RFID TagSource is a big supporter of our RFID program," said Rutgers Associate Professor Francois Berthiaume. "Projects like this enhance our capabilities to provide private sector companies with access to RFID equipment and services in an objective academic environment. This also provides Rutgers students with real world experience in this emerging industry. Our plan is to periodically update this report as new tags and equipment become available in the market."

"When speaking with customers we first focus on key project requirements," continued Donahue. "The next question is 'what type of reader are you using?' as this is a critical component of the read distance equation. The hand-held and fixed RFID reader solutions available at the Rutgers RFID lab are a great asset for RFID TagSource, our customers, and any organization interested in supporting this valuable facility."
