RIA Custody Chiefs, Top Advisers and Leading Financial Press Will Convene as MarketCounsel Announces First Round Faculty for the MarketCounsel Summit

ENGLEWOOD, NJ--(Marketwired - July 09, 2014) -

  • Heads of all three of the largest US custodians will debate their roles and value proposition in supporting independent advisors, including where they are committing resources.
  • A panel of perennial Barron's-ranked top independent advisors will share the characteristics of top performing advisors and how their ranks are evolving.
  • Leading financial industry press editors will look back on what is shaping up to be a big year and examine what drove the biggest stories of the year.

MarketCounsel, the leading business and regulatory compliance consultant for independent investment advisory firms and entrepreneurial RIAs, announces first round faculty selections for The MarketCounsel Summit, to be held from December 8th to the 11th, 2014 at the Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas.

"We're always excited to announce our headliners, and this year is no exception -- but the industry leaders who join us annually make the Summit what it is, an unparalleled forum for debate and dialogue among the best our industry has to offer," said Brian Hamburger, MarketCounsel CEO and Conference Chair. "Every speaker will leave the audience with a keen understanding of the challenges and opportunities we'll face together in 2015."

The Summit will bring together on one stage the heads of three of the largest RIA custodians, Schwab's Bernie Clark, Fidelity's Michael Durbin, and Pershing's Mark Tibergien, in a candid conversation about the opportunities and threats that lie ahead for independent RIAs. The three will face questions from Shirl Penney, President and CEO of one of the industry's largest buyers of custody services, Dynasty Financial Partners.

"This is a time of immense opportunities and challenges for RIAs," says Penney. "We're cognizant of the important role the custodians play. It will be fun asking them some tough questions about growth, obstacles to it and catalysts for it -- and then hearing their candid responses."

Also speaking, top financial advisers Steve Lockshin (Convergent), Grant Rawdin (Wescott Financial Advisory Group), and Brent Brodeski (Savant Capital Management), as offer a peek into lessons learned in their rise to the top, along with how they're evolving for the future. The trio are perennially ranked among Barron's top independent advisors and will fittingly be moderated by Barron's managing director Sterling Shea.

And on a panel entitled, "It Was A Very Good Year", editors from prominent financial industry press outlets, Jim Pavia (CNBC), Kevin Noblet (The Wall Street Journal), Rachel Elson (Financial Planning), and Fred Gabriel (InvestmentNews), will experience a reversal of the norm as they find themselves being interviewed and having to look back on what contributed to the popularity and importance of the industry's biggest news stories of 2014. The panel will be moderated by Jason Lahita, Founder of FiComm Partners, a public relations firm with a focus on the RIA space.

As previously announced, the Summit also looks forward to welcoming its headliners: renowned entrepreneur Mark Cuban, former head of Merrill Lynch and Smith Barney Sallie Krawcheck, former SEC chairmen Christopher Cox and Harvey Pitt, former New York Attorney General and Governor Eliot Spitzer and CNBC's Ron Insana, each bringing their candid and, at times, polarizing personas to the event.

More details about The MarketCounsel Summit including agenda details, attendee registration, sponsorship opportunities, and speaker nominations (for next year's event) are available at The event is already at record registration levels and registration is limited.

About The MarketCounsel Summit (#MSUM14)

Investment advisers face an evolving landscape of challenges in protecting their practice while in pursuit of the limitless opportunities in growing their business. The Summit is designed by a team that admittedly rebuts the usual lecture-based, "talk at you" conferences. Instead, the Summit's objective is to create an incomparable forum for advisers to engage and interact among industry leaders to develop a sound strategy for addressing challenges while forming actionable plans for taking advantage of opportunities.

Already hailed by the financial press historically as one of the few "elite conferences" in the industry, the Summit features general sessions and interactive workshops that run morning 'til night, over three days in the desert. The agenda is stacked with well-orchestrated extracurricular events that provide for unmatched opportunities to 'continue the conversation' among advisors, speakers and the industry's top service providers, including a can't-miss opening reception and a live auction to benefit the MarketCounsel Foundation.
