Ribbit Brings Voice Collaboration to Google Wave

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - September 29, 2009) - Ribbit announced its conferencing and voice message gadgets have been selected as featured extensions for Google Wave™. Built using a mash-up of the Ribbit REST API and the Google Wave APIs, the two extensions will enable rich, dynamic voice collaborations for participants within a live Google Wave environment.

The first featured gadget is Ribbit Conference, which enables real-time audio collaboration between participants in a wave. Seamlessly integrated into the flow, look and feel of Google Wave, Ribbit's Conference gadget turns a wave into an actual conference where people can talk as well as type. Persistent in the wave, it allows any participant to:

-- Create an audio connection with multiple Google Wave participants
-- Add non-Wave participants to the session
-- Mute, hold or disconnect any of the individual participants from the
    stream

Ribbit is also introducing an early version of the Message Gadget on the Ribbit website. It will be available as a Google Wave extension soon. Ribbit Message allows Google Wave participants to connect with each other and leave voice messages, even while offline, and to add voice messages into the wave workflow for one-to-one or one-to-many distribution at a later date and time. The gadget displays the audio transcription with the actual audio message attached.

Ribbit is an open platform for communication innovation that also creates and markets business and consumer "voiceware" applications. The application source code -- as well as links to download the applications -- are available as part of the wave launch at http://www.ribbit.com/wave. Those wishing to use the applications will need to sign up for a developer account at http://www.ribbit.com/wave.

Ribbit Conference and Message gadgets will initially be free for developers to download and use for a limited time. More information on the two Ribbit extensions for Google Wave can be found at http://www.ribbit.com/wave.

QUOTE - TED GRIGGS, RIBBIT CEO

"As the worlds of Internet and phone merge at an accelerated pace, the real promise of Internet telephony lies in making voice a programmable feature -- one that can be easily added to Web pages, widgets, online communities and applications. Ribbit's integration into Google Wave combines the richness of voice calling with the interactivity of Web 2.0 experiences to deliver a truly collaborative workflow environment."

QUOTES ATTRIBUTABLE TO KEVIN MARKS, VICE PRESIDENT OF WEB SERVICES

"Google Wave has created a new model for communication on the Web that allows text and image-based collaboration. Ribbit's Conference and Message gadgets add a whole new layer of value for Google Wave users by enabling real time voice communications. Bringing voice to the collaboration environment is a natural extension of its design."

"Ribbit Conference and Message gadgets take the spirit of Google Wave and extend it to voice. While these gadgets were created specifically for Google Wave, Ribbit's open REST API allows developers to build their own voice applications. We envision that voice will no longer be artificially separated from open networks or applications and will no longer be treated as a separate data type. The future of communication will be driven by the developer community and limited only by their innovation."

QUOTES ATTRIBUTABLE TO LARS RASMUSSEN, ENGINEERING MANAGER, GOOGLE

"Being able to have a phone conversation while collaborating in Google Wave was one of the most requested features and we're really excited to see how people use Ribbit's Conference gadget."
