Richard Petty Challenger to Cross the Block at Barrett-Jackson

LEVEL CROSS, NC--(Marketwire - January 19, 2010) - On Saturday, January 23rd, the Petty Family Foundation will send Lot # 1277 across the block at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, AZ. Lot #1277 isn't just any car, it's Richard Petty's Challenger -- even titled in Richard's name -- which for car collectors will make documentation pretty simple 20 or 30 years from now. The Challenger is a custom car creation from Petty's Garage in Level Cross, NC and was built on the hallowed grounds that built Petty Enterprises racecars since 1949.

The Challenger was built by some of NASCAR's finest master fabricators and chassis tuners, is powered by an Arrington Engines late model 426 C.I. HEMI, and is one of only a handful of street vehicles to ever be painted the trademark Petty Blue by BASF R-M. This Challenger is truly one of a kind.

"Back in April or May we tossed around the idea of building a Dodge Challenger at Petty's Garage to showcase our capabilities," said "The King" Richard Petty, owner of Petty's Garage. "But once we got going on the car I felt like there was more we could do with it than just build it. So we contacted the folks at Barrett-Jackson about selling the car for the Petty Family Foundation and they jumped right on board."

The Petty family has always tried to give back to the communities in which they live and to help others in need, a value that is part of the fabric that makes up the Petty family. The Petty Family Foundation supports the Paralyzed Veterans of America (the only Congressionally chartered non-profit focusing on spinal cord injury), and Victory Junction, a camp for chronically ill children founded in memory of Adam Petty, along with various other educational and local charities.

"We are lucky to have partners like Petty's Garage, the PVA and Victory Junction," stated Rebecca Moffitt, executive director of the Petty Family Foundation. "The Challenger from Petty's Garage has allowed us to step into a different arena when it comes to our fundraising efforts and we are very excited to be a part of Barrett-Jackson and to offer such an amazing vehicle."
