Richardson Milling Workers Locked Out

SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - Sept. 11, 2014) - Workers at the Richardson Milling facility located north of Martensville, Saskatchewan, have been locked out by the company. The 34 workers are members of UFCW Canada Local 1400 (United Food and Commercial Workers union).

The Local 1400 members saw their contract expire on October 31, 2013. The union and employer have been in negotiations for the past eight months. The union has been attempting to reach industry-standard wages, and a fair pay scale based on experience.

Picket lines were set up at 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday night, as a result of the employer's lockout. One Wednesday morning, in response to the employer's final offer which had been rejected by the membership, the workers tabled a response to the employer's final offer in hopes of avoiding a dispute.

The employer has shown little interest in responding and proceeded with the lockout of the workers.
