Ridley Inc. Seeks Appeal of Ontario Court Ruling

MANKATO, MINNESOTA and WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 13, 2006) - Ridley Inc. (TSX:RCL)(www.ridleyinc.com) announced today that it is filing a notice of motion with the Divisional Court of Ontario seeking leave to appeal from the Ontario Superior Court of Justice's January 5th decision denying Ridley's motion to strike. That ruling allows an Ontario farmer's claims of economic losses, allegedly incurred as a result of the closure of the U.S. border following the 2003 detection of BSE in an Alberta cow, to proceed to the next stages of litigation.

In its motion to strike, Ridley had sought early dismissal of the lawsuit, arguing that the farmer's claims presented no reasonable cause of action under Canadian law. The Court's January 5th decision dismissed the case in its entirety against Ridley's majority shareholder, Ridley Corporation Ltd., while allowing the Ontario case against Ridley Inc. and the Government of Canada to proceed to the next stages of litigation, including determination of class certification and discovery. The ruling does not impact the merits of the case itself.

Ridley Inc. looks forward to the opportunity to appeal the decision which it believes conflicts with Supreme Court of Canada case law and other court decisions. Early dismissal of the lawsuit remains Ridley's primary goal, and the Company will continue to fully defend against the claims as long as the case continues.

Ridley Inc. headquartered in Mankato, Minnesota and Winnipeg, Manitoba, is one of North America's leading commercial animal nutrition companies. Ridley manufactures and/or distributes a full range of animal nutrition products under a number of highly regarded trade names.
