ESSEX, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Oct. 30, 2012) - Prominent casino affiliate company Right Casino Media has put together research depicting the benefits of banners and links, and which one is more effective for your website as an aid for conversion. Right Casino Media, who run a large network of online casino portals have been using eye tracking software to track the results of an experiment to test out whether they get more results from their banners or their text links.
Right Casino Media have spent the past 2 months recording results from their website www.LiveCasino.co.uk to see whether readers were more interested in advertising portrayed by banners or information given by text links and buttons. They found that banners produced 17% of outbound clicks, whereas 83% was supplied by text links and buttons. However also noticed that when they removed banners from their website altogether, there was a 6% decrease in outbound link clicks.
It was mentioned that people may be wary about using banners to travel to another website as most internet users will be aware that the banner belongs to a third-party company. This brought them to the idea that people will be more interested in links they can trust, this means links that clearly state where they're going and are created by the content writers rather than a third party company. This would mean that banner usage is declining as there is a lack of trust between the reader and the website.
They were also able to discover what makes a good banner/text link and what you should avoid. Certain things to keep in mind when making a banner include colour, prominence, call-to-actions and a clear message. Similarly, the text links also required certain factors to make them appealing like their colour (green, not red) and their context, by ensuring relevance to the surrounding text.
David Merry, Director of Right Casino Media, commented "I'd suspected that banners had been used a lot less than buttons and text links for a long time, however we still noticed the importance that a lot of people put into them, sometimes to the extent where buttons and text links would be omitted entirely. This research was conducted in order to provide a factual analysis of how users behaved when on one of our websites and I think what we discovered should help webmasters all over the world."
