RightScale Announces Integration With Google Compute Engine

RightScale Cloud Management Featured at Google I/O

SANTA BARBARA, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 28, 2012) - RightScale® Inc., the leader in cloud computing management, today announced the integration of its cloud management solution with Google Compute Engine. RightScale is offering a private beta for customers to manage Google Compute Engine with RightScale cloud management. Customers in the private beta program will use RightScale to easily deploy workloads to Google Compute Engine using automation and dynamic configuration while retaining complete control and governance.

RightScale's signature methodology enables both a fast on-ramp and automated management for Google Compute Engine. When developers and organizations choose to deploy their workloads on Google Compute Engine they can harness RightScale pre-built ServerTemplates™ as a configuration framework to facilitate efficient, automated provisioning and operations. Using RightScale, customers can automate and customize the build-up, operation, and break-down of many types of workloads, from on-demand data analysis clusters, to batch processing, to 3-tier web apps so they are tailored to specific customer requirements.

BuildFax, a long time RightScale customer and early adopter of cloud-based infrastructure, has been extremely pleased with their initial experience with Google Compute Engine. "We have been using the Google Compute Engine for our web application (nginx, memcached and rabbit) and database (MySQL) servers," said Joe Masters Emison, VP, Research and Development at BuildFax, "and have found the performance of the Google Compute Engine VMs to be the most consistent of any other virtualized architecture we've used. BuildFax creates millions of construction history reports each month, and we have extensive benchmark tests that evaluate how any particular hardware platform will perform in delivering reports to our customers. Using Google Compute Engine 8-CPU instances, each report took an average of .39 seconds, with a standard deviation of .02 seconds; we are used to seeing a standard deviation of almost ten times that on other virtualized hardware solutions. The only way we've found to get that kind of consistent performance -- before Google Compute Engine -- is running our own data center. We have not been using the cloud for certain SLAs we must satisfy, but Google Compute Engine is so consistent that it meets our needs here. Being a long time RightScale customer I can now run and manage chosen workloads on Google. The RightScale integration with Google has been well thought out, making it simple and fast to use Google Compute Engine."

"Google has certainly already proven itself in the cloud space and Google Compute Engine will be a major player in the IaaS arena," said Thorsten von Eicken, CTO of RightScale. "It was clear from day one that Google Compute Engine is an all-out initiative drawing on an incredible pool of expertise and technology to deliver a world-class product. This is an important addition to the Google portfolio of cloud services -- allowing customers to have freedom to use PaaS and IaaS or both, as appropriate for their use case. We're pleased to be a launch partner and to have customers already running workloads on Google Compute Engine."

RightScale will demonstrate its integration with Google Compute Engine at Google I/O on June 28, 2012. To find out more or request access to the private beta please visit or call: 1.866.720.0208 (toll free) or +1.805.855.0265. To learn more about the Google Compute Engine please visit
