Rio Cristal Zinc Announces Management Changes

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA and LIMA, PERU--(Marketwire - March 23, 2009) - Rio Cristal Zinc Corp. ("RCZ" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:RCZ) announces the appointment of Thomas Findley to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer effective April 1, 2009. Mr. Findley will also retain his position as a Director of the Company.

Mr. Findley is one of the founders of the Company. He has almost 40 years of financial experience in the mining industry including positions such as Treasurer and later Managing Director of Project Development at Asarco Inc. (NYSE), CFO at Southern Peru Copper Corp. (NYSE and BVL) and CFO at Peru Copper Inc. (TSX and BVL). He is also President and CEO of Global Vista S.A. a consulting company in Lima, Peru where he resides.

Charles Preble, Chairman of RCZ, said, "We are pleased to have Tom take on his new role with the Company. His significant financial experience in mining and exploration will be critical in guiding the Company through these very difficult times."

The Board of Directors of RCZ and Mr. Findley have agreed that he will receive Company stock options and that further compensation will be entirely incentive based. The Board will periodically review the performance of the Company compared to its objectives as well as its financial situation before determining compensation for Mr. Findley.

Mr. Findley succeeds Mr. Charles Ushela, also one of the founders of the Company. Mr. Preble thanked Mr. Ushela for his enthusiasm and hard work during his tenure as President and CEO. Mr. Ushela will remain as a Director of the Company and will continue to contribute as a member of the RCZ team.

The change implemented by RCZ Board of Directors is part the Company's strategy to take the Company through the current period of market uncertainty.
