Rio Cristal Zinc Initiates Drilling of High-Grade Zinc Targets

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - May 15, 2008) -

Rio Cristal Zinc Corporation (the "Company" or "RCZ") (TSX VENTURE:RCZ), today announced that it has begun drilling high grade zinc targets at its Cristal Project within its 25,000 hectare Charlotte Bongara claim block located in northern Peru. The drill targets were identified during the Company's 2007 exploration program.

The 6,500 meter drill program will feature four drill rigs; with two rigs focused on shallow drilling of zinc outcrops at surface up to a depth of 100 meters and two rigs focused on drilling to a depth of up to 600 meters. The 1,500 meter shallow drilling seeks to outline a high-grade zinc oxide deposit at surface and the 5,000 meters of deep drilling is to attempt to identify a high-grade zinc sulphide mineralization at depth beneath the surface oxide outcrops that have been identified. "We are very pleased to have drilling underway within this multiple-target, unexplored district. At present, we have twenty high-quality targets identified which we anticipate will provide a very positive flow of information over the coming year," commented Charles Ushela, President and CEO.

The Company will also continue to expand the 2,500 meters by 1,500 meters Cristal Project target area through additional exploration work as geochemical anomalies are open in several directions. Additionally, early-stage exploration work will begin on two other high-priority projects (San Jose and Florida) within the Charlotte Bongara claim block. The San Jose target measures approximately 1,000 meters by 1,000 meters and will feature soil sampling, trenching, mapping, geochemistry, geophysics, and drill target identification. The Florida project, located adjacent to Votorantim Metais' advanced stage exploration property, will feature reconnaissance work including stream sediment sampling, mapping and geochemistry.
