Rio Salado College 'Named Military Friendly School'

Honor Places College in Top 15 Percent Nationwide

TEMPE, AZ--(Marketwire - August 25, 2009) - G.I. Jobs magazine named Rio Salado College a "Military Friendly School for 2010." This honor places Rio Salado in the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide that are doing the most to embrace America's veterans as students.

"This list is especially important now because the recently enacted Post-9/11 GI Bill has given veterans virtually unlimited financial means to go to school," said Rich McCormack, G.I. Jobs publisher. "Veterans can now enroll in any school, provided they're academically qualified. So schools are clamoring for them like never before. Veterans need a trusted friend to help them decide where to get educated. The Military Friendly Schools list is that trusted friend."

G.I. Jobs criteria for making the list included efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students, and academic accreditations. Schools on the list also offer additional benefits to student veterans such as on-campus veterans programs, credit for service, military spouse programs and more.

"It is a great honor to be considered a Military Friendly Institution," said Yvonne Lawrence, Coordinator of Recruitment Programs for Military Education at Rio Salado College. "Providing educational access to service members, veterans, and their families is one of the goals of Military Education at Rio. This honor reflects the hard work of the Military Advisement Team and Veterans Affairs at our Tempe location and at Luke Air Force Base."

Rio Salado College is one of only two Maricopa Community Colleges to earn this honor. The other recipient is Gateway Community College. Find more information about Rio Salado College's military partnerships at http://www.riosalado.edu/partnerships/military
