RISE Global Unveils New York City 2012 Expansion Plans

Country's Largest Entrepreneurship-Focused Conference Will Expand Beyond Austin Through a Partnership With The Argus Group

AUSTIN, TX and CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - Jun 29, 2011) - RISE Global, a non-profit dedicated to inspiring and empowering entrepreneurs, today announced in a commitment at the Clinton Global Initiative ( that it has partnered with The Argus Group to launch RISE Week New York City in Spring 2012.

New York is the first of a number of cities anticipated to join Austin, Texas in hosting their own RISE Week events as the conference seeks to expand.

First held in Austin, Texas in 2007, RISE Week is one of the first attendee-organized conferences of its kind. The community of entrepreneurs it serves develops and leads the RISE Week agenda, and its free sessions are independently organized, peer-led, limited to 25 participants and take place in venues throughout the host city. RISE Week's non-traditional format has made it the country's fastest-growing and largest conference for entrepreneurs, and each year, the event connects thousands of aspiring, new and established entrepreneurs in all industries with tools, resources, information and connections to help them start and grow their businesses.

"In just five years, RISE Week has proven a powerful model for connecting entrepreneurs with resources and with one another," said RISE Co-Creator Bertrand Sosa. "In the midst of an economic recovery that everyone agrees relies on entrepreneurship and innovation to sustain it, we want to do our part by sharing RISE Week with other communities. We're thrilled New York City is the first, and we are fully committed to President Clinton's call for action to focus on how to create more jobs in America."

RISE Global targeted New York City as its first location outside Austin, Texas because of the diversity, scale, and attention it represents across small, medium, and large business communities globally. The Argus Group, a prominent marketing firm with a reputation for producing world-class events, will serve as the lead partner and will work closely with RISE Global to execute RISE Week in New York, and work actively with other strategic partners to support the effort.

"New York City is the geographic center of many of our nation's most vital economic sectors, and our state and city leaders recently committed publicly to positioning our city to lead the innovation economy. So it's a great time to get RISE Week New York City off the ground," said Maureen J. Reidy, president and CEO, The Argus Group.

"Much like how RISE Week relies on the entrepreneurs it serves to lead a successful event each year, the successful expansion of RISE Week to other cities relies on the leadership of respected community partners like The Argus Group," said Georgia Thomsen, RISE Global Executive Director. "We couldn't imagine a partner better equipped to tap into the city's entrepreneurial energy, and we can't wait to see RISE Week New York City take shape."

Roy Sosa and Bertrand Sosa, brothers and accomplished Austin entrepreneurs, created RISE Week in 2007. Thanks to its unique format featuring small, peer-led sessions, RISE Week has grown from 40 sessions filling 500 seats during its first year, to over 350 sessions and events filling over 3,500 seats in 2011.
