The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong Honors the City's Alluring Nostalgia With "This is Shanghai" Experience

Luxury Hotel Near IFC Shanghai Debuts Exclusive Three-Day Hotel Package

SHANGHAI, CHINA--(Marketwired - Apr 1, 2016) - As the distinctive skyline of Shanghai becomes more futuristic by the day and the forward-thinking city progresses ahead, The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong invites guests to embrace its rich heritage with a new immersive experience, "This is Shanghai." Balancing modern luxury with the glamorous, art deco design inspired by the roaring 1930's, the luxury Pudong hotel is the perfect place for guests to learn about Shanghai's legendary history and gain insight to its bright future. Allowing travelers the opportunity to deepen their understanding of life in the world's largest city, this three-day hotel package celebrates the best of Shanghai's seductive and storied past, present, and future.

With limousine service and an English-speaking tour guide throughout, guests will learn to greet one another in Shanghai's native dialect before visiting some of the city's most renowned icons, such as Yu Garden. Guests can also tour Xin Tian Di and Tian Zi Fang, a picturesque neighborhood comprised of restored, traditional "shikumen" stone gate houses from the 1930s. Even with the city's modern boom of glossy skyscrapers, shikumen architecture remains integral to the experience of Shanghai by providing context to its long history of urban development.

Renowned as China's fashion capital, Shanghai allows guests to embrace the city's dynamic style with a personal tailoring experience at an additional cost with local designer Zhuang Rong, whose name means Royal Gold Thread. There, women can be fitted for tailored custom "Qipao" or cheongsam, the embroidered silk dresses which Chinese ladies wear to weddings and formal occasions. First created in Shanghai in the 1930's and known for their Mandarin collars and tight fit, these dresses are indicative of the city's ongoing ability to create international, timeless style. For men, tailors will design and construct a "Zhongshan" suit or modern Chinese tunic suit commonly worn by Chinese leaders during important state ceremonies and functions.

Furthermore, guests can take part in a private morning TaiChi class with one of the most famous Chinese TaiChi Masters on the rooftop terrace at Flair. This 400-year-old form of kung-fu combines traditional martial arts and modern exercise. Encouraging harmonious mental and physical balance, practicing TaiChi offers travelers the perfect way to stay healthy and refreshed, especially after a long flight.

Taking place at mainland China's tallest al fresco restaurant, the Tai Chi practice is complemented by fantastic views of the skyline, allowing one to truly appreciate not only Tai Chi's balance of yin and yang, but also the city's balance between its ancient and modern identities. Additionally, a private dinner for two is available in award winning restaurant Jin Xuan, prepared by celebrity chef Daniel Wong. Following dinner, Chef Wong will present one of his secret recipes to the guests as a commemorative take-home gift.

Guests are invited to enjoy a tour on the outskirts of Shanghai in Zhujiajiao Village, an ancient town that includes many historical sites such as Kezhi Gardens, with a personal photographer from National Geographic Magazine. Next is a tour of the Bund, the focal point of Shanghai's skyline featuring striking neo-classical buildings. One of Asia's top financial and business hubs, the Bund has always been an epicenter for history, art, and stunning architecture.

After spending two days discovering Shanghai's history, guests will conclude the experience wearing their custom-made Qipao dresses or Zhongshan suits at an enchanting dinner cruise along the Huangpu River on a luxury yacht. Guests can unwind with a specially crafted cocktail as the breathtaking Shanghai sun sets, allowing them to admire yet another view of the spectacular city.

Offering guests a luxurious way to explore the city's rich past and vibrant present, the "This is Shanghai" package starts at approximately 5,880 USD per package based on double occupancy. (This price is subject to 15% service charge).

The Shanghai hotel package includes:
