NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Apr 23, 2014) - Rivalries on Wall Street have helped to make the annual RBC Decathlon a popular charity athletic competition among the financial services community. Rivalries -- friendly or not -- extend well beyond Wall Street and thanks to Stadium Duel, there's now an athletic charity event open to the public where rivals "settle it once and for all" while benefiting pediatric cancer treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
"Everyone has a rival. Most often, it's a close friend or a co-worker. Frequently, that rivalry plays itself out in everyday activities, yet there are very few opportunities to compete against your rival in a fun, structured competition. That's why Stadium Duel came to life," explains Marc Hodulich, the event's Executive Producer who is also a co-founder of The RBC Decathlon.
OVERALL ATHLETICSM TESTED
Stadium Duel, an offshoot of The RBC Decathlon, is an athletic charity event where two individuals compete head-to-head in 5 diverse events including a 40yd dash, Vertical jump, 20yd shuttle run, Football throw, and Bench press.
Hodulich adds, "Endurance events like marathons and triathlons are flooded with hundreds and sometimes thousands of participants, so competing against your rival can be very difficult or at least less compelling in those settings. Stadium Duel solves the problem. It's just you versus your rival. "
CHARITYBET AGAINST YOUR RIVAL
To curate the field, which is limited to 200 "rivals", each participant accumulates $1,000 worth of performance-based donations aka 'charitybets'.
"The RBC Decathlon is a hugely successful fundraiser, so we've applied similar principles to Stadium Duel," notes Hodulich. "Our technology allows participants to accumulate charitybets. It has proven to be tremendously effective ($3.4 million raised since 2009) for donors and fundraisers because it allows people to predict the winner through a pledge. That stirs everyone's competitive juices and makes for a highly entertaining day of competition."
Stadium Duel occurs Saturday, June 21st at St. John's University's DaSilva Memorial Field. To register for Stadium Duel, visit www.TheDecathlon.org/StadiumDuel
