Riverbed Integrates Cascade Profiler and CACE Technologies Product Lines

Network Performance Management Solution Offers Complete Top-Down Visibility, From High-Level Business Views to Packet-Based Transaction Analysis

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - May 3, 2011) - Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: RVBD), the IT performance company, today introduced an enhanced architecture for its Cascade® network performance management (NPM) solution that fully integrates the application-aware NPM functionality of Cascade Profiler™ with the Cascade Shark™ network traffic recording appliance and Cascade Pilot™ network analysis software. This new integrated architecture gives customers robust real-time network and application performance analytics, resulting in complete top-down visibility into their network and applications. With this announcement, Cascade is the only NPM solution on the market that fully consolidates real-time business-level performance views with packet-level analysis all in a single data set that users can seamlessly navigate in order to quickly and accurately diagnose and troubleshoot network and application performance problems.

The enhanced Cascade solution seamlessly integrates the Shark and Pilot products acquired in Riverbed's October 2010 acquisition of CACE Technologies. Cascade Shark appliance and Cascade Pilot software provide a modern, cost-effective packet capture and analysis solution that adds retrospective and real-time packet-level analysis capabilities to the Cascade product line. "The integration of Cascade Profiler with the Shark and Pilot products is a natural evolution of Riverbed's NPM solution. These products extend Cascade's ability to examine the traffic crossing the network for a deeper, more robust view of network and application performance and the troubleshooting of difficult problems," said Jim Frey, managing research director, Enterprise Management Associates.

Additionally, Cascade is the first NPM solution to be fully integrated with Wireshark®, the world's most popular network protocol analyzer. Wireshark integration enables Riverbed® customers to leverage their existing packet analysis skills and benefit from the wide protocol support and open nature of this popular, community-driven tool.

"Pacific Dental Services relies on Cascade to provide real-time reporting at any level on conversations and end-to-end application performance throughout our 242 sites. When problems arise, Cascade is always the first -- and usually only -- resource needed to gain visibility into the network. On many occasions, Cascade has enabled us to resolve network or application problems in less time than it took to submit a help ticket. There is no way I could manage our challenging environment without Riverbed Cascade," said Jason Irby, network administrator, Pacific Dental Services.

Troubleshooting Problems with Top-Down Visibility
To help IT organizations achieve a greater understanding of network and application performance, the new integrated Cascade solution is the only NPM solution that provides users with real-time analytics of both Netflow and packets, resulting in enhanced top-down visibility into network and application performance, enabling organizations to easily pinpoint and diagnose performance problems. Cascade's simple, easy-to-understand interface provides a high-level view of the network that indicates where problems are located, and enables users to zoom in down to the packets for an individual transaction within a unified interface for accelerated troubleshooting.

"Cascade customers have turned to Riverbed to help them better understand how to deliver high-performance IT services to their organizations. This solution offers customers a unique, seamless approach to quickly diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve network problems and deliver these essential IT services to keep the business running productively and improve the user experience," said Apurva Davé, vice president of product marketing at Riverbed.

Riverbed Cascade provides customers with enterprise-wide application performance analysis, discovery and dependency mapping as well as proactive alerts on network and application performance bottlenecks. Cascade collects network traffic data and provides an application-level view of all network resources and locations, giving network administrators the business context they need to monitor critical IT services and provide executive-level reporting. With Cascade, Riverbed customers are able to easily troubleshoot performance issues, dramatically reducing downtime for business-critical applications.

More than 13,000 organizations worldwide, across a wide range of markets, depend on Riverbed to understand, optimize and consolidate their IT infrastructure. Riverbed delivers appliance-based and virtualized solutions that overcome performance issues caused by distance, distributed computing, and ever increasing amounts of data. Virtualization, consolidation and cloud computing promise huge cost savings and improved efficiencies, but as users move farther from their data, slow applications and file transfers can stall these strategic initiatives. Riverbed delivers to the remote office and mobile workers the same "local area network (LAN)-like" performance, no matter where the private data center or public cloud may be. Riverbed continues building on its success in the WAN optimization and application-aware network performance management markets with new and innovative solutions for accelerating cloud storage and access to applications and data deployed in the public cloud.
