Riverbed to Showcase IT Performance Solutions for Replication Environments at EMC World

Company to Present on Accelerating Disaster Recovery and Cloud Storage With Riverbed Solutions

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - May 9, 2011) - Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: RVBD), the IT performance company, today announced its participation at EMC® World Las Vegas 2011, taking place May 9-12 at The Venetian Hotel. EMC World is the the premier educational forum for EMC customers, partners and IT professionals. In addition to exhibiting its solutions qualified by EMC as E-Lab™ Tested at EMC World (booth #921), Riverbed® executives will be speaking on the role of wide area network (WAN) optimization in EMC replication environments for consolidated and cloud architectures, as well as accelerating storage to EMC Atmos® using the Whitewater™ family of cloud storage gateway solutions.

Thousands of organizations already use Riverbed WAN optimization solutions to accelerate applications and to dramatically cut bandwidth requirements; many of them have also deployed the solutions to enable faster data protection, thereby reducing their recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO). As replication has emerged in the marketplace as a preferred strategy for more frequent and seamless protection of storage between data centers, many organizations have deployed Riverbed Steelhead® appliances, powered by the Riverbed Optimization System (RiOS®), with EMC solutions to accelerate disaster recovery (DR) operations. For unmatched performance, flexibility and fault tolerance in large data centers and DR environments, organizations have deployed the Steelhead 7050 model appliance that combines new levels of bandwidth and TCP session scalability with solid-state drives (SSD) and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE).

With growing interest in cloud storage among IT organizations, Riverbed introduced Whitewater cloud storage gateways for backup and archive workloads. Whitewater enables organizations to seamlessly integrate cloud storage into their existing backup and DR processes. Single-ended Whitewater appliances (no hardware needed in the cloud) can be deployed in many cloud storage and backup tool environments, including those powered by EMC Atmos and EMC Networker®, providing organizations with flexible back-end and front-end system plug-and-play capabilities.

Whitewater incorporates Riverbed's core performance optimization and deduplication technologies, which have been proven to reduce storage requirements significantly. In addition to backing up and restoring data at local-area-network (LAN)-like speeds, Whitewater provides dual-layer encryption for data in motion and at rest in the cloud for maximum data security.

Riverbed and EMC have an established history of delivering best-of-breed storage and WAN optimization solutions that accelerate DR processes while reducing overall IT costs for customers by removing huge amounts of repetitive data from the WAN. Over the past year, Riverbed has worked closely with EMC E-Lab to qualify Steelhead appliances for EMC RecoverPoint, EMC Symmetrix® Remote Data Facility/Asynchronous (SRDF®/A) for both Symmetrix VMAX™ and Symmetrix DMX™, EMC MirrorView™/A, EMC Celerra® Replicator and EMC SAN Copy™. EMC E-Lab qualifications mean that joint customers can deploy Riverbed WAN optimization solutions into their largest data centers with confidence. Steelhead appliances, which were first qualified by EMC E-Labs in 2009, are offered through the EMC Select program.

At EMC World, attendees can stop by the booth to learn more about how Riverbed solutions can help EMC replication environments. Conference-goers can also attend the following sessions:

What: Delivering Cost-Effective and High-Performance Disaster Recovery for Consolidated and Cloud Architectures
Who: Venugopal Pai, vice president of global alliances, Riverbed Technology
When: Tuesday, May 10, 2011, 1:30 p.m.
Where: Solutions Theatre, The Venetian Hotel, Las Vegas, NV

EMC replication technologies such as SRDF/A, EMC MirrorView/A, and EMC Celerra Replicator provide long-distance DR solutions to protect the most vital informational assets in organizations. Riverbed provides a solution to minimize WAN bandwidth utilization in order to maintain the high end-to-end throughput requirements and stringent RPO/RTO targets in these environments. This enables organizations to protect these assets to ensure that data is protected and business is never interrupted. In this session, attendees can learn how Riverbed can help reduce bandwidth requirements, improve performance for SRDF/A over the WAN, and accelerate storage replication over distance in both public and private clouds, while still reducing total cost of ownership (TCO).

What:WAN Optimization for Disaster Recovery
Who: Nik Rouda, director of solutions and vertical marketing, Riverbed Technology
When: Tuesday, May 10, 2011, 3:45 p.m.
Where: Select Theatre, The Venetian Hotel, Las Vegas, NV

EMC storage products enable organizations to centralize and simplify their DR requirements, providing remote replication to help recover from many potential failure scenarios, but often the WAN can limit throughput and make service level agreements (SLAs) difficult to meet. With Riverbed Steelhead appliances, organizations can improve their RPO/RTO. In this session, attendees can learn how Riverbed can help minimize network costs and overcome the performance constraints of the WAN, including limited bandwidth, high latency, congestion and packet loss.

What:Accelerating Storage to EMC Atmos Clouds Using Riverbed Whitewater Appliances
Who: Eric Thacker, director of product marketing for Whitewater, Riverbed Technology
When: Wednesday, May 11, 2011, 1:30 p.m.
Where: Atmos Theatre, The Venetian Hotel, Las Vegas, NV

Riverbed products provide the most comprehensive approach to application acceleration and DR across the WAN. Organizations with strategic data protection initiatives are leveraging Steelhead appliances to accelerate back-up, DR, replication and storage consolidation processes. Riverbed has extended its acceleration and de-duplication capabilities to cloud storage with Whitewater. In this session, attendees can learn how Riverbed provides organizations with a fast, secure and cost-efficient method to seamlessly integrate cloud storage into their existing backup infrastructure and disaster recovery strategies, without sacrificing security, using the Whitewater cloud storage gateway.
