Riverbed to Showcase Market-Leading IT Performance Solutions at Gartner Data Center Conference 2010

Customer to Present the Cost Savings, Efficiency and Performance Benefits of Utilizing Riverbed Whitewater Appliance in Public Cloud Environments

SAN FRANCISCO , CA--(Marketwire - December 8, 2010) - Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: RVBD), the IT performance company, today announced its participation at the Gartner Data Center Conference 2010 taking place December 6-9 at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, NV. The Gartner Data Center Conference delivers strategic guidance and tactical recommendations on issues reshaping the 21st-century data center to help enterprises navigate critical next steps in emerging technologies like virtualization and cloud computing. At the conference, Riverbed® customer AVST will present its real-world experience with the Riverbed Whitewater™ appliance, a cloud storage acceleration solution that provides enterprises with a fast, secure and cost-efficient method to seamlessly integrate cloud storage into their existing backup infrastructure and disaster recovery (DR) strategies, without sacrificing security.

Today, more than 8,700 enterprises worldwide depend on Riverbed to understand, optimize and consolidate their IT infrastructure. Building on its success in enabling organizations large and small to build private clouds, Riverbed recently announced that it is extending its award-winning acceleration and deduplication capabilities to cloud storage with the Riverbed Whitewater appliance, expected to be generally available in Q4 2010. The Whitewater appliance is a cloud storage accelerator that works with existing backup software to securely accelerate and deduplicate data to the public cloud, and enable fast restore at any time. With this appliance, Riverbed enables customers to accelerate communication and data transfer to public clouds by allowing organizations to utilize off-site storage while making backup and recovery feel local. This provides a simple, efficient way to offsite data to cloud storage environments. With this new offering, enterprises can leverage cloud storage for inexpensive, pay-as-you-offsite backup, without the need for complex changes to their existing infrastructure.

To hear about a real-world implementation of the Whitewater appliance, conference-goers can attend the following session:

"Riverbed: Case Study: Deploying Disaster Recovery to the Cloud"
Who: Ben Bailey, Manager of IT Services, Applied Voice & Speech Technologies
When: Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, 9:15-9:45 AM
Where: Augustus 1, Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas, NV

What: For AVST, a leader in unified communications solutions, transitioning from tape-based to cloud-based backup and recovery is an important step in enhancing its overall DR program. While the company initially investigated disk-to-disk backup, the cost was prohibitive. AVST is now leveraging the Whitewater cloud storage acceleration appliance to gain control over a 70% rate of growth in data volume per year, reduce weekend backup times by 35% - 40%, improve data restore times by nearly 30% and significantly reduce both OpEx and CapEx.

At the Gartner Data Center Conference, attendees can visit the Riverbed booth #19 to learn how Riverbed WAN optimization solutions help IT organizations deliver to globally connected enterprises anytime, anywhere IT performance, enabling acceleration of applications and data for branch offices, data centers and mobile workers, as well as virtualized, private and public cloud environments.
