Riverbed to Showcase WAN Optimization Solutions for Virtualized Environments at VMworld 2010

Leading WAN Optimization Vendor to Demonstrate Enabling Technologies for Private Cloud Infrastructures, Consolidated Branch Offices

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - August 30, 2010) - Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: RVBD), the IT performance company, today announced its participation in the annual VMworld 2010 Conference, taking place August 30-September 2 in San Francisco, California. Virtualization technology is being widely adopted to build efficiency into existing IT infrastructures and drive cost cutting initiatives, however organizations are still encountering performance barriers to successfully consolidating IT infrastructure into private clouds and at the branch. At the conference, Riverbed® (booth #536) will showcase how enterprises are using wide area network (WAN) optimization solutions in conjunction with VMware solutions to enable the consolidation of IT resources to private clouds and within the branch office.

Riverbed Steelhead® appliances can accelerate the performance of applications between data centers, remote offices and mobile workers by five to 50 times, and in some cases up to 100 times. This performance increase enables enterprises to efficiently collaborate across VMware environments, while centralizing and consolidating IT resources into the private cloud -- all without sacrificing application performance. Joint Riverbed and VMware customers can replicate VMware environments more efficiently while experiencing performance improvements of up to 55x.

WAN optimization Enables Consolidation at Branch Offices
For enterprises looking to further consolidate their IT infrastructures, they can visit the Riverbed booth to learn the benefits of the Riverbed Services Platform (RSP), a virtualized partition within the Riverbed Steelhead appliance that allows organizations to run up to five remote office virtual edge services, without the need for separate dedicated servers. This approach enables enterprises to reduce their IT footprint at the branch office while improving asset utilization, operational efficiency and business agility and ensuring end-user satisfaction. Services currently available for deployment on the RSP include streaming media, print services, network management sensors, unified threat management/web proxy services and DNS/DHCP/IPAM.

WAN Optimization for Highly Virtualized Environments
During the conference, Riverbed will also demonstrate its recently-announced Virtual Steelhead. Built for the VMware vSphere™ Platform, the Virtual Steelhead offers customers greater flexibility to deploy Riverbed WAN optimization technology in a wider range of environments that have specialized needs and require resilience and customization, while still offering simplified management. With the Virtual Steelhead, a virtualized WAN optimization solution can now be deployed in virtualized data centers, as well as on hardened military or first responder equipment, news vans and construction trailers that are in rugged environments or where a Steelhead appliance won't fit due to physical space limitations.
