Riverside Medical Center Provides Illinois Healthcare for All

KANKAKEE, IL--(Marketwire - July 31, 2009) - When it comes to healthcare, the staff at Riverside Medical Center goes out of their way for the residents of Kankakee County. The Riverside Medical Center mission states that the organization will provide its services "to each and every person, regardless of their personal or economic circumstance." And those services will be offered with Riverside's "highest thinking," "kindest touch," and "strongest commitment to excellence."

"Quality healthcare should be available to anyone, without regard to their economic situation," said Phil Kambic, president and CEO at Riverside Medical Center. "The bottom line is that when anyone reaches out to Riverside, they can be certain they will receive the absolute best care, regardless of their ability to pay." Those words seemed to come to life in 2008, as Riverside provided more than $38 million in Illinois healthcare benefits last year. That total of service, for which Riverside was not paid, represents a wide variety of much-needed programs and services provided to individuals and families throughout the medical center's service area. In 2007, Riverside provided just over $36 million in community benefits.

The income, employment and insurance status of residents of Kankakee County result in the hospital caring for a large number of patients who are uninsured or underinsured, or for whom public program reimbursement is inadequate to cover costs. This Chicago south suburbs hospital is dedicated to providing quality healthcare to those who need it most. Of the $38 million of community benefits that Riverside provided in 2008, over $18 million of the total covered costs were for subsidized health services. That included Medicaid services, and community health centers in Kankakee, Momence and Hopkins Park. This also includes New Life Center, ambulance services, health screenings, physician recruitment and health care education, among other services.

Momence healthcare is an important facility that is administering quality care to its residents. In 2008, Riverside had 146,732 outpatient visits. The medical center had 13,471 inpatient visits last year and 39,466 emergency room visits. Riverside performed 7,211 outpatient surgeries in 2008 and 5,085 inpatient surgical procedures. Riverside also had 1,229 newborn deliveries in 2008.
