Riverstone and Perry Homes Donate Home in One of the Top Places to Live in Fort Bend County to Wounded Marine

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - September 24, 2007) - Riverstone and Perry Homes have made possible the gift of a home site and a home to Corporal Paul Gardner, a 25-year-old U.S. Marine who was severely wounded during the War on Terror.

The home was built by Perry Homes in Riverstone, among the top homes for sale in Fort Bend County. The keys were presented to Cpl. Gardner and his wife of one week, Ashley, in a ceremony attended by U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, local dignitaries and friends and family. The Gardners also received $1,000 worth of gift cards from their new neighbors in Riverstone to help furnish their home.

The home is the first of 15 Houston homes that will be given to veterans who were wounded in the War on Terror. Rotary District 5890 orchestrated this home donation, with the Rotary Club of Houston facilitating other donations of homes. The goal is to help disabled veterans make the transition to civilian life. The Johnson Development Corp., developer of Riverstone, will make dreams come true a second time when a home within Tuscan Lakes is given to U.S. Marine Captain Christopher Ayres and his wife Renee in late September.

The Gardners' 2,800-square-foot home was specially constructed to accommodate Cpl. Gardner, with three-foot-wide doorways, a roll-in shower in the master bath and lowered closet rods. Lower kitchen counters put everything within reach, and tile and hardwood flooring allows for easy wheelchair maneuvering.

Tom Wilcox, vice president and general manager of Riverstone, which donated the home site, said Riverstone is proud to be a part of a noble program honoring the sacrifice that Cpl. Gardner made while fighting for our freedoms.

With a diverse collection of homes priced from the $200s to over $3 million, Riverstone is conveniently located at Highway 6, three miles south of U.S. 59, and offers easy access to several major thoroughfares, including the Fort Bend Parkway.
