Robert Cathro Appointed to Board of Advisors

TAMPERE, FINLAND -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 12, 2007 -- Gondwana Energy Ltd. (OTCBB: GNWA) is pleased to announced that Robert Cathro has been appointed to the company's advisory board.

Robert (Bob) Cathro brings a lifetime of precious and base metals experience and mining success to our advisory board. In 1966, he formed a consulting engineering firm, Archer Cathro & Associates Ltd, which is still in operation and which was inducted into the Yukon Prospectors' Hall of Fame in 2002. The firm specialized in the exploration of precious and base metals in the Canadian Shield -- analogous to much of the geology in Finland. Mr. Cathro earned a B.A.Sc. in Geological Engineering from the University of British Columbia in 1959 and began his career as a mine geologist with four underground mines (1959 to 1965). Two of the mines, the Giant Yellowknife (NWT) gold mine and the Keno Hill (Yukon) silver-lead-zinc mine, were operated by subsidiaries of Falconbridge. His consulting engineering firm, Cathro & Associates, discovered or delineated scores of mineral deposits in the Yukon and elsewhere on behalf of clients, including the IOCG-type U camp in the Wernecke Mountains, the extensive coal basin between Whitehorse and Carmacks, and the Williams Creek Copper-Gold deposit near Carmacks.

Mr. Cathro has served as a director of several mining companies, including Big Creek Resources and All North Resources, which was acquired by the Robert Friedland 'Group' (of Diamond Fields and Ivanhoe fame) after it had enlarged the Nickel-Precious Metals deposit at the former Wellgreen Mine, Yukon. Professional awards include: the Dufresne Award by the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (CIM) in 1991; the Huestis Award (co-winner) by the BC & Yukon Chamber of Mines (now AME BC) in 1999; and a Distinguished Service Award by the Geological Association of Canada (GAC) in 2003. He is currently a member of the technical advisory committee of Geoscience BC (a non-profit, non-governmental organization that manages a $25 million fund established by the provincial government in 2005. He is also the author or co-author of six papers in peer-reviewed technical journals on subjects as diverse as Yukon tungsten deposits, metallogeny of the Canadian Cordillera, supergene copper mineralization and sedex deposits. He recently published a paper on the History of Mining and Metallurgy in Latin America, 1500 BC to 1600 AD (in the Latin America Special Volume mentioned above) and is currently the editor of a series on the "History and Geology of the Great Mining Camps of Canada" that will appear in Geoscience Canada, a GAC quarterly. He is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of BC (P.Eng) and the GAC, and a Life Member of the CIM and AME BC.

Gondwana Director Robert Van Tassell commented on today's appointment, "I have known Bob on a professional and personal level for close to 50 years. His extensive experience and knowledge of Canadian shield mineralogy should prove to be a valuable asset to our company as we move forward with the exploration and development of our Finnish-based projects."

Mr. Van Tassell continued, "Finland appears to offer the same geological potential for world-class discoveries as the Canadian Shield did 50 years ago when Bob and I first began our careers. Recent discoveries such as Agnico-Eagle's Kittila gold mine and Talvivaara Mining's large sulphide-hosted nickel deposit are but two exciting developments in this increasingly interesting country. Having been part of some of the bigger discoveries to be made in Canada, we look forward to experiencing similar success in Finland as we move forward."

The Company has recently called a Special Meeting of Shareholders of Gondwana Energy Ltd. to change the name of the company to FinMetal Mining Ltd. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, commencing at 10:00 a.m. local time, at the offices of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP, 1225 17th Street, Suite 2300, Denver, Colorado 80202 (telephone: (303) 292-2400).
